Our History
Heartland Growers is located in Westfield, Indiana, and was originally founded in 1979. In November of 1984, the then 10-acre wholesale business was purchased by James Gapinski and his family. Heartland Growers prides itself in having two generations of the Gapinski family involved in the daily activities, including many of James’ nine children. We’re not just a business, we’re family.
Heartland Growers is one of the most modern and capital-intensive greenhouse facilities in Indiana. We challenge ourselves to continue to innovate the greenhouse within the industry. We take our greenhouse knowledge over the past 30 years and apply it to our daily routines.
At Heartland Growers we service all retailers, both large and small. Our crop is predominantly a spring annual crop with a large percentage of our business occurring in the months of April, May and June. We also specialize in holiday offerings such as Easter Lilies, spring bulbs, garden mums, poinsettias and indoor foliage for our year-round customers. Recently, we have expanded our growth into vegetables through our Opa’s Garden line, as well as indoor hydroponic produce through our Edible Garden line.
We believe our greatest asset is our employees. Our year-round workforce is 80-100 people with our seasonal count peaking at around 175. It is through this seasoned workforce that we meet the demands of the marketplace and provide the quality our customers have come to expect.
